Picasso was baptized Pablo Diego José Francisco de Paula Juan Nepomuceno María de los Remedios Cipriano de la Santísima Trinidad Martyr Patricio Clito Ruíz y Picasso. He was named after various saints and relatives. The "Picasso" is actually from his mother, Maria Picasso y Lopez. His father is named Jose Ruiz Blasco. Picasso started as a child prodigy and ended as the acknowledged greatest painter of his century. After some early training with his father, a provincial drawing teacher, Picasso showed that he had thoroughly grasped naturalistic conventions–the ways that artists make a picture look "realistic"–at a very young age.
“All children are artists. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up. ”
